Students exchange letters
Each student gets a pen pal from the partner class. One letter a week works wonders — and you can read along any time.
Built for school-grade safety
- Every school is approved by hand before a single student can log in.
- Student accounts are a walled garden: invisible to the community, they can only write to their assigned pen pal.
- Students log in without email — class code + PIN from a printed card. We store just the name you enter.
- You can read your own class's letters at any time — and your students see a banner telling them so.
- Optional approval mode: every letter waits for your OK before it's delivered.
- No ads, no tracking of students, nothing to pay.
Find your partner class in the directory

How does a classroom exchange work?
You create your school, add your class and connect with a partner classroom in another country — a teacher you already know, or one you find in the built-in partner directory. Each student is paired with a pen pal from the other class and they exchange letters — typically one per week.
How do my students log in?
Without email addresses. You add your students by first name, print their login cards, and they log in with the class code and a 4-digit PIN — like the classroom tools you already use. We store nothing about them beyond the name you enter.
Is it safe for my students?
Yes. Student accounts are a walled garden: invisible to the whole community, only able to write to their assigned pen pal. You can read your own class's letters at any time — and your students see a banner telling them so. Every school is approved by hand before students can log in.
Can I check letters before they're sent?
If you want to: switch on approval mode and every letter your students write waits for your OK before it's delivered. Handy for younger classes. There is deliberately no grading and no per-student analytics — letters are for friendship, not marks.
What does it cost?
Nothing. PenPalConnect is completely free for schools — no subscriptions, and the classroom program carries no advertising at all.
What about parental consent?
You confirm that your school has collected the required consent, as with other educational tools. We'll provide a template letter you can send to parents.
What if I don't know a partner class yet?
Open your class and check the Partner class tab: list your class in the partner directory and you'll see classes worldwide that are also looking — with country, student ages, class size and language. One click sends the other teacher a partnership request.
