What is on this board?
Members of PenPalConnect can send a letter by airmail: instead of arriving the moment it is sent, it takes a day to land, the way post used to. Every letter currently making that journey is on the board above — where it took off, where it is going and when it lands. The map shows the same letters in flight.
Only routes are shown. The board never says who wrote a letter, who it is for, or a word of what is in it; to visitors who are not logged in it shows countries rather than cities, and letters to or from members under eighteen are left off it entirely.
Why would anyone make a letter slower?
Because it changes what people write. When a reply cannot arrive for a day, three-line messages turn into proper letters about someone's week. It is the part of the site members mention most when they tell us why they stayed.
