Yo! I’m Mercedes 👋🏾 I’m from Nigeria and I’m here because I genuinely want to meet people from different parts of the world, hear their stories, learn about their culture, and hopefully make some real friendships along the way. I’m pretty chill, easy to talk to, and I can go from a serious conversation to completely unserious nonsense in about two seconds 😂.
I’m mainly here to make genuine friends from different countries and cultures 🌍. I’d love to meet people I can actually vibe with, have random conversations with, share music and stories, joke around with, and learn about each other’s lives. I’m open to meeting people from anywhere outside Nigeria
A tradition from my country that surprises foreigners…
One tradition foreigners find fascinating is the old Nigerian belief that certain places, trees, rivers, or objects could be spiritually important and therefore had to be treated with great respect. In some traditional communities, people would leave certain sacred places untouched, follow specific customs when approaching them, and pass the stories surrounding them from one generation to another.
The dish from my country you have to try is…
Foreigners should definitely try suya. It’s spicy grilled meat covered in a special blend of ground peanuts and Nigerian spices, usually served with onions and sometimes tomatoes. It’s smoky, spicy, messy, and ridiculously good especially when you get it fresh from a proper roadside suya spot at night.
My unpopular opinion is…
Being from another country doesn’t automatically make your culture more interesting than mine or mine better that yours 😂. I actually think Nigeria has some of the most underrated food, music, slang, stories, and personalities in the world. I’ll happily learn about your country, though—just be ready for me to defend Nigerian food like it’s a national responsibility.
